In response to Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s Vision 2020 for modernizing Malaysia, Binariang Sdn. Bhd. brought together a team of experienced experts to develop and launch Malaysia’s first communications satellite system named Malaysia East Asia Satellite (MEASAT). The MEASAT name was chosen to reflect our Malaysian roots and ambition to connect all of Asia. This visionary project marked the start of Malaysia’s journey into satellite technology

MEASAT-1 Launch

MEASAT-2 Launch

1996

MEASAT-1 and MEASAT-2 were launched, introducing Ku-Band technology to Southeast Asia. These pioneering satellites were designed to operate in high rainfall areas, and powered the early growth of telecommunications and broadcasting in the region. This included supporting Astro’s Direct-To-Home (DTH) service, significantly transforming the broadcasting landscape in Southeast Asia

Building on early successes, the satellite division of Binariang Sdn. Bhd. was established as a standalone entity and rebranded as MEASAT Global Berhad. This pivotal transition marked a major milestone, transforming the original MEASAT project into an independent, dedicated satellite communications provider focused on expanding its regional footprint

MTBC In Cyberjaya, Malaysia

2005

MEASAT opened the MEASAT Teleport and Broadcast Centre (MTBC) in Cyberjaya, signaling the company’s vision of growing into a regional powerhouse providing premium and reliable satellite services. The opening of MTBC laid the foundation for MEASAT’s further expansion in the Asia-Pacific, positioning the company for leadership in satellite communications

MEASAT-3 Launch In Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakstan

2006

MEASAT-3 was launched at 91.5°E , expanding MEASAT’s capabilities across the Asia-Pacific region, including coverage in Malaysia, Indonesia and South Asia. This satellite enhanced communication and broadcasting capabilities, significantly boosting the region’s access to high-quality satellite services. The expansion of coverage reinforced MEASAT’s growing role in the Asia-Pacific satellite communications landscape

MEASAT-3a Launch

2009

MEASAT-3a was launched and co-located at 91.5°E with MEASAT-3, further strengthening the region’s hub for Direct-to-Home (DTH) and broadcast services. Together, MEASAT-3 and MEASAT-3a played a key role in supporting the growing demand for television broadcasting, video distribution, and business expansion across Malaysia, Asia-Pacific, and Africa

MEASAT-5

2011

A strategic partnership with THAICOM led to the launch of MEASAT-5, marking the beginning of high-speed satellite-based broadband connectivity across Malaysia. This milestone strengthened MEASAT’s position in both broadcasting and communications

AFRICASAT-1a Launch In Kourou, French Guiana

2013

AFRICASAT-1a was launched, extending MEASAT’s reach into Africa and the Middle East, marking the company’s first step into serving markets beyond Asia

MEASAT-3b Launch In Kourou, French Guiana

2014

MEASAT-3b was launched and co-located with MEASAT-3 and MEASAT-3a, establishing one of Asia’s most powerful and robust orbital hotslots at 91.5°E. The high-powered MEASAT-3b significantly bolstered satellite broadcasting, video, and DTH services, serving as a critical satellite for Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and Australia

CONNECTme NOW in Sibu, Sarawak

2018

Building on the capabilities of MEASAT-5, CONNECTme was launched to deliver high speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities across Malaysia. Later that year, CONNECTme NOW was introduced, providing community satellite broadband with prepaid WiFi access for remote areas without fibre or mobile coverage. These initiatives marked a major step forward in advancing digital inclusion nationwide

MEASAT-3d Launch in Kourou, French Guiana

2022

The launch of MEASAT-3d, a state-of-the-art High Throughput Satellite (HTS), significantly enhanced Malaysia’s broadband infrastructure. With advanced multi-band and HTS capabilities, MEASAT-3d expanded the delivery of reliable, high speed internet connectivity and became a cornerstone of Malaysia’s satellite communications ecosystem
