The Board of Directors of MEASAT Global wishes to announce that the Company ' s wholly-owned subsidiary, MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn Bhd ( “ MSS ” ), has on 31 October 2007 decommissioned its MEASAT-1 (M1) satellite from operational service at the 91.5 o E orbital location.
In April, all M1 customers had been requested to ensure all services were migrated to the newly launched MEASAT-3 (M3) satellite. Located at the same orbital location, M3 has been designed to replace M1 and provide expansion capacity for the MEASAT network. Built by Boeing Satellite Systems International, Inc of the USA, and featuring state-of-the art satellite technology, M3 provides 24 Ku-Band transponders over Malaysia, Indonesia and South Asia, and 24 C-Band transponders over 100 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Eastern Africa. M3 will be augmented in 2008 by the launch of MEASAT-3a into the same orbital location.
M1 was decommissioned after an operational life of 12 years. The decommissioning of the M1 satellite was in line with the operational plan of MSS.
The decommisioning will not have any effect on the share capital, net assets and earnings of MEASAT Global or the shareholdings of the substantial shareholders of MEASAT Global.
This Announcement is dated 31 October 2007.
