2009 was an important year for the Group with the successful launch of the MEASAT-3a (“M3a”) satellite. Increasing the Group’s capacity at the 91.5°E orbital location by 50%, M3a provides a platform for the continued growth of the Group’s core Direct-to-Home (“DTH”) and Broadcast Distribution customer base. |

Group with strong competition across a
number of key markets leading to downward pressure on
satellite transponder lease rates. In addition, the delay in the
launch and availability of MEASAT-3 severely impacted
MEASAT’s ability to expand services to existing customers
and enter new markets, as had originally been planned. |

key markets. Despite these conditions, the Group has
strengthened its position in core markets

2003 saw the Group continue to build its presence and
strengthen its position across core South East Asian
markets. The year saw the expansion of capacity taken
by existing customers, as well as the addition of new
customers, in Malaysia, IndoChina, the Philippines,
Singapore and South Asia. Despite competition the
Group also successfully renegotiated terms, and
retained key accounts, in core markets including
Malaysia, IndoChina and the Philippines. |

Year 2002 the Company completed the acquisition of the
entire equity interest in Binariang Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd. from MEASAT Global
Network Systems Sdn Bhd for a total
purchase consideration of RM1,451,000,000. The purchase consideration was satisfied by way of
RM750,000,000 in cash and the issuance of 187,433,155
new ordinary shares of RM0.78 each in the Company at
RM3.74 per ordinary share. |
